Entirely Edible Plant Adds Flavor to Your Garden
If you’re looking for something to add a little spice to your garden, the Wasabi Plant is the perfect choice. Also known as Japanese horseradish, this edible root is used to make the spicy green condiment popular in Japanese cuisine. In fact, the entire plant is edible!
Though its rhizome is what’s commonly used to make wasabi paste, the stems and leaves can be eaten as greens, too. And since it stays compact and thrives in low-light areas, it’s a versatile addition to any edible garden.
For best results, keep your Wasabi Plant’s soil moist, but not oversaturated. This plant will be happiest at 45-75 degrees Fahrenheit, so be sure to move your Wasabi Plant indoors when temperatures move below 45 or above 75.
You’ll be able to harvest your Wasabi Plant the second year after planting, and its strong, spicy root will provide a fun and flavorful addition to your kitchen with your own homemade Wasabi paste. Plus, the leaves and stems are great for salads, smoothies, soups, and many other dishes.

Planting & Care
Planting: Plant in an area without direct sunlight and with proper shade. Stand the plant upright so that part of the rhizome is exposed. It should also be in an environment without too high or too low temperatures, between 45-75 degrees Fahrenheit. If you live in an area with greater temperature fluctuations outside of this range, consider potting your wasabi for easy moving when needed.
Watering: Water consistently at planting, and keep a regular routine to ensure moisture without overwatering. Misting the plants also helps in temperature regulation and avoiding wilting.
Fertilizing: The plant’s soil requires a slightly acidic to neutral pH, along with being rich and constantly moist.
Pruning: Remove any wilted leaves that don’t respond to misting. This can help to decrease the spread of disease or powdery mildew.
